Located at what is now the boundary of the municipality of Arzon, the Tumiac tumulus is one of the major monuments in the area. The structure forms a curious landscape feature in the shape of an imposing frustoconical hill of impressive dimensions, 60 metres in diameter and 15 metres high.
This large grave, one of the first monuments excavated by the Morbihan Polymathic Society in 1853, housed a burial chamber without a passage that yielded sumptuous grave goods: jadeite axe-heads and variscite beads. These artefacts can now be seen in Vannes Museum.
A listed historic monument since 1923, the grave is one of the area’s three giant tumuli, along with the Saint-Michel tumulus in Carnac and the Mané er Hroëck tumulus in Locmariaquer.
